Exclusive interview with Niki Lauda: McLaren are too slow

After qualifying for the Canadian GP was over, Niki Lauda spoke to Autoblog UK about Sebastian Vettel’s latest pole position and about the upcoming race.
Yet another superb performance from Sebastian Vettel?
Niki Lauda: Super, no question of that. He did everything that was expected of him. There is no better way to do it.
Are you surprised that Ferrari are so strong here?
No, because they’re up and down depending on which track they’re at. Their time hasn’t come yet. Sometimes they get closer to the Red Bulls, then sometimes they’re further behind again. So it comes as no surprise to me.
Are McLaren where you expected them to be?
No, they’re too slow. Perhaps they went out on track today all set up for wet conditions. I don’t know, and we’ll have to see what the weather is like tomorrow.
Nico Rosberg is feeling very optimistic about the race. He says Mercedes are looking forward to it and hope they’ll finally get something here. What do you think the race has in store for him, and also for Michael Schumacher?
Nico is always happy just before going into a race. His performance in free practice was what we expected, though in my opinion, it could perhaps have been a little faster. And Michael is just as quick as Nico. So for him it’s a small success, but it’s still not enough to feel happy about, because you can really only be happy if you get onto the podium.
What will happen if it rains here tomorrow in the race. Will there be chaotic conditions out there, maybe even danger?
It becomes dangerous when visibility is reduced, because the straights here are very fast. So there will undoubtedly be chaos aplenty. But how things will turn out, I can’t say.
But we can look forward to 70 action-packed laps?
Oh yes, whatever happens.
